What I am about to share with you all is just between us. It is It is vacation time and you are looking for those eateries where the locals like to dine. There are many hidden gems within Sevierville, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. You have all seen the many chain restaurants that line up the main roads, but there are so many locally owned restaurants right under your noses. I am about to share some of the top places to dine while vacationing here near the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Now a few of these you may have heard of, but I guarantee that there are a few that you have never heard a word about. So sit back and read all about them!
Do we have any cheeseburger lovers out there? Yea, we figured we did! Frank Allens Market is located in Sevierville in a Marathon station. It is the Marathon station that is closer to Belk, right off the Parkway and across from Kings of Real Estate. Now many hear “gas station” and immediately wonder why anyone would want to have dinner at a gas station. The food speaks for itself! They have been voted Best Cheeseburger in Sevier County for 14 years straight. Literally the best cheeseburger you will ever have and we do not joke about food. It is a very clean atmosphere and offers plenty of seating including tables, booths and counter stools. Frank Allen started the market and his daughter and son in law now run it. So, trust us – run, don’t walk to this place and order up some delicious food! They have a variety so there is something for everyone.
I have not met many people that do not like Italian food. The aromas of the food cooking, the fragrant spices and the different varieties of pasta are delectable. My favorite Italian dish is hands down Chicken Parmesan. Yes, we do have an Olive Garden and Johnny Carino’s, but if you are looking for some local places then read on. Geppetto’s is located in Wears Valley and offers great friendly service and offer up delicious food to curb any appetite.
Nino’s Pizzeria and Eatery is on Long Springs Road in Sevierville and is owned by a sweet Italian family. My family and I eat here often and the place has done so well, they just expanded a bit ago! They specialize in pizza, calzones, subs and many entrees. Whatever you do, do not leave without trying one of their cannoli’s! They are to die for and it is hard to eat just one even when you are stuffed from your meal. Another great Italian restaurant is Taste of Italy and is in Gatlinburg. In fact, it is voted number 2 out of 123 restaurants in Gatlinburg. That is saying something folks!
Looking for something really different? Smokies Cuban Cafe offers up food that a lot of folks aren’t even familiar with. Traditional Cuban specialties, located right below our Whispering Pines property! Walk on down the hill while vacationing with us and enjoy a different kind of meal. Their guava empanadas and yuca fries are really good! They offer a kids menu too that offers up the normal food like chicken tenders and hot dogs so don’t worry about the kiddos not having anything to eat. They also serve up cuban coffee, pastries and tropical fruit drinks. It is a hidden gem here in town and once you try it, you will return time and time again.
Halle’s Kitchen is another local fave. Located on New Center Road in Sevierville, Halle’s Kitchen offers up a cozy environment and some outdoor picnicking. They are closed January through March, but if you are visiting the area during their open times, drive on over, grab a table and enjoy some steak bites or one of their beef hot pots.Their orzo pasta olive salad is a must try by the way. They have an extensive menu so you will find something for all to try and enjoy.
I love those quaint little places that you just happen upon while out and exploring. They have a way of just sticking with you. The Wild Plum Tea Room is one of those places. Located in Gatlinburg, this old style teahouse serves up delicious treats in a mountain setting. My suggestion is to order up some hot tea and then enjoy their Lobster Pie or Bison Burgers. If you are not wanting something quite so heavy, their tomato basil goat cheese pizza and chicken salad is really good as well. You will love the atmosphere that this little tea room offers. Oh and also, they do offer vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options.
A few other restaurants to try are The Ship English Pub, Roland’s Bistro and Delauder’s Smoky Mountain BBQ. There are so many great places to dine at here near the Smokies. If you ever have any questions about any of the mentioned restaurants or others that you have heard about, ask away! One of the best parts of vacationing is trying out those little loved places that the locals enjoy. Trust us, we locals enjoy all of these restaurants and hope…no, we know you will too!
