Cades Cove

The warm weather is finally back in town and if you’re anything like me then you’re craving a day out in the sun! Pigeon Forge and the surrounding areas are known for having so many different things to do at every corner. Many of the activities are also located outdoors so you can grab some sunshine while you’re on vacation. Whether you’re looking to do some hiking or spend a day out shopping, we have it all waiting for you! When you stay with us here at Whispering Pines, we offer one, two, three, and four bedroom affordable luxury condos for you to come and relax in after a long day out exploring. We also have three different views to choose from when it comes to your private balcony, you can either look out over the city, mountains, or the wooded area behind the condo. As a thank you for booking with us, we also have a FREE TICKETS program for numerous shows and attractions in the area for you to take advantage of, saving you $275 a day! We know there are so many places to choose from when picking somewhere to go for the day. One of our favorite destinations to visit is Cades Cove. There’s a lot to do there from scenic drives to hiking and everything in between. Let’s take a look at what A Day at Cades Cove could look like!

We recommend starting your day off early so you can beat some of the crowds that are bound to start lining up there. Before heading over, make sure to stop by Reagan’s House of Pancakes located at the bottom of our hill so you can get a delicious breakfast in before your adventure! After enjoying your plate of incredible pancakes and other goodies, hop onto the spur – our gateway to the Smoky Mountains – and head to traffic light #10 in Gatlinburg. You will enter the park and you’re on your way to this popular destination. If you’d like to start with a scenic drive, this is absolutely one of the best to go on. This 11 mile loop circles the cove and will feature some breathtaking views of our amazing scenery and the valley. You may even see an abundance of wildlife from black bears to even white-tailed deer, so make sure to have your cameras ready! You can take your time with viewing everything, especially if you get there early. Please keep in mind that during the busier seasons, it could take hours to actually finish the loop since it is one way, so make sure to allow ample time to really enjoy it! There are also plenty of pull-offs throughout your journey, so you can stop and really take in all the beauty that’s surrounding you. You can also see our beautiful sunrise from these which will make this adventure even more special! Trust us when we say that you won’t want to miss a Smoky Sunrise. Check out this post about the Best Places to See the Sunrise! Cades Cove is open from sunrise to sunset daily as long as the weather permits it.

Along your drive, you will also be able to see so much of our rich history from this special valley. One amazing fact that I learned from their website is that Cades Cove actually has the widest variety of historic buildings of any other area in the National Park. During your scenic drive, you will come across three different churches like the Primitive Baptist Church, barns (Cantilever), log cabins, a grist mill that is actually working, and so many other things from the past. There is also a museum and the Sugarlands Visitor Center is located here, so if you’d like to get out and stretch your legs for a bit, I recommend visiting them. You’ll be able to learn about more of our history and pick up brochures to read about the area! You can also ask about some of the hiking trails here to see which ones would best fit your needs if you’re ready to hit the trails for the day.

As we just mentioned, this is also where you can find many of our popular hiking trails! If you’re looking for beautiful views, this is exactly where you want to be. Since Cades Cove is a meadow surrounded by the majestic Smoky Mountains, it’s where you can expect to see the gorgeous scenery that you’re looking for this trip. It’s the perfect place to pack up a lunch to take with you on your travels so you can have a picnic with your loved ones when you’ve found the best spot. We know that there are a lot of trails to choose from, so we decided to narrow it down to a few of our absolute favorites!

  • Abrams Falls (moderate)
  • Ace Gap (moderate)
  • Gregory Bald (strenuous)
  • Rich Mountain Loop (strenuous)
  • Rocky Top/Thunderhead (strenuous)
  • Spence Field (strenuous)

It’s time to start ending your exciting Day at Cades Cove, but there’s still one last thing you must do before you go – check out the beautiful sunset, of course! It isn’t a Smoky Mountains vacation if you don’t get to see the sunset up close and personal and right before your eyes at least once while you’re here. There are plenty of incredible pull-offs that you can visit so you can really see the mountains in all their glory. You will want to have your cameras ready as you watch the sun beginning to set and the fog starting to form around the mountains (it’s where our name comes from after all!) We can promise that this will instantly become one of your favorite things to do while you’re visiting Cades Cove. Don’t forget to check out our recent blog about the Best Places to See the Sunset! Once you’re on your way back to the condo, make sure to stop by Mama’s Farmhouse and enjoy a FREE dinner thanks to our tickets program. It’ll be a wonderful ending to an exciting day with the family!
