Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg Announcements from 2018

2018 is all wrapped up and to say it was a good one here in the Smoky Mountains would be an understatement! Numerous events, attractions and announcements were made so we thought we would remind you all of exactly what happened in 2018 in the Smokies! Listed below are a few things you may have forgotten occurred here in this vacation destination.

Dollywood Announced their Expansion

Dollywood made an announcement in 2018 that they would be doing their largest expansion ever. It is, by far, one of the biggest announcements Pigeon Forge has heard in recent years. The expansion, called Wildwood Grove, will offer eleven new experiences for visitors. All of them will be different themed experiences and there are some new rides included as well. Dollywood says it will cater to all ages and offer something for the entire family to enjoy. Wildwood Grove will be located just off the path near Timber Canyon. Learn more about the expansion here.

Blake Shelton Opening a Restaurant in Gatlinburg

An Ole Red Restaurant will soon be opening its doors in downtown Gatlinburg this year. Blake Shelton announced in 218 that he would be opening his third Ole Red Restaurant near the Smokies. Shelton is quoted as saying that Gatlinburg is one of his favorite places. His other two Ole Red locations are in Oklahoma and Nashville. Folks can expect great food and great music and entertainment. Construction is practically finished at this point and we expect them to announce their opening date very soon.

Rocky Top Mountain Coaster

Recently opening their doors in late 2018, the Rocky Top Mountain Coaster is the most recent of new coaster attractions in our area. Located on Veterans Boulevard, this new attraction offers a lot of fun for the whole group and of all ages. Open daily from 10am to 10pm, guests can experience more than a nine minute ride as you go through tunnels, up the mountainside and enjoy four drops along the way. With multiple twists and turns, Rocky Top guarantees fun for all. You can check our their pricing here.

Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Rehaul and Reopening

If you are familiar with downtown Gatlinburg, then you have or will notice that the Ripley’s Believe It or Not! received a major makeover in 2018. Redesigned with numerous new exhibits, visitors to the museum will be able to experience even more strange and unusual things from all over the world. A few of the popular exhibits include shrunken heads and the world’s tallest man. With the new makeover, Ripley’s also included a gallery to the Great Smoky Mountains as a tribute. The National Park exhibits include Synchronized Fireflies and the Tallest Underground Waterfall.

Pinball Machine Museum Opened in Gatlinburg

The Gatlinburg Pinball Museum opened in late 2018 and features vintage and limited edition games dating all the back to the 1960’s. They will soon offer more than 50 pinball machines in the museum. The neat thing about this place? It may be a museum, but you can also play on these machines. Admission for adults to play all day is $12 and $10 for children under the age of 10. That price includes unlimited play on all of the games in the museum. The museum is located on the Historic Nature Trail in Gatlinburg.

National Enquirer Museum Announced

With an opening date of sometime in the Spring of 2019, the National Enquirer Live Museum is sure to be a fun stop while in Pigeon Forge. There have not been many details released yet on what all this new attraction will offer, but as soon as we hear, we will pass that information along to you! It is currently being build on the Pigeon Forge Parkway, across from where the Titanic Museum and Hatfield & McCoy are.

August Moon Drive-In Theater

In Fall of 2018, plans were announced to open the first ever August Moon Drive-In Theater here in Pigeon Forge! This new attraction is sure to be a big hit with visitors and locals. When you think of going to a drive-in theater, you expect to sit in your own vehicle. August Moon is doing things a bit different. Instead of sitting in your own vehicle, you will instead be relaxing in one of the forty classic vehicles that will be parked in front of the massive screen. You can learn all about the August Moon Drive-In Theater by reading our blog article on it.

Like we said earlier, 2018 was a great year here in the Smoky Mountains and a lot of wonderful things happened and were announced. As always, we will keep you all updated on any new things coming in 2019. We are so excited about this new year and look forward to seeing you all here in Pigeon Forge.
